Prerolls, Infused Prerolls & Blunts: What's the Difference?

Prerolls are the grab-and-go favorite of the Coachella Valley — no grinder, no rolling, no mess. But "preroll" covers a lot of ground. Here's how to tell them apart.

Classic prerolls

A preroll is ground cannabis flower packed into a paper cone. Common sizes:

  • Minis / "dogwalkers" — around 0.3–0.5 g, perfect for a quick session
  • Half-gram — a good solo size
  • Full gram — made for sharing

Multi-packs are popular because each one stays sealed until you're ready.

Infused prerolls

Infused prerolls add a concentrate to the flower — like kief, hash, distillate or live resin — either mixed inside or coated on the outside. They're noticeably stronger than regular prerolls and burn more slowly. If you're new to them, take a puff or two and wait before going further. (New to concentrates? Read our guide to live resin, rosin and distillate.)

Blunts vs. wraps

A traditional blunt uses a tobacco-leaf wrap, which means it contains nicotine. Many products now use hemp wraps or other tobacco-free options instead. Check the packaging so you know which you're getting.

Tips for a better burn

  • Keep them fresh — sealed tubes, cool and dark. Desert air dries prerolls quickly.
  • Toast the tip — rotate the end in the flame before lighting for an even burn.
  • Slow down — gentle puffs keep the burn even and the flavor better.
  • Don't relight endlessly — a stale, canoeing preroll tastes harsh.
